Please give your representative your e-mail address so that we may also confirm user name and password via e-mail. Note to Registered Users: As a registered user, you will have access to your own personal folder which will be secure from other users. When uploading a file, please notify your representative so that they may activate your order/request. Inactive files may be deleted.

Accessing site using an FTP application:

The preferred method of accessing an FTP site is with an FTP application such as Fetch or Transmit (Mac) or FTP Voyager or WS Pro (PC), simply enter the user name and password that you were given within the program's initial connection window.

Preparing files for Transfer:

File setup:

We support all major Mac and Windows software packages:

  • Adobe Creative Suite products, up to Version 3
  • Quark Xpress up to Version 7

We also accept PDFs made to the X1A standard. Make sure the fonts are embedded and images are not RGB.

Create your layout to the final page size; extend any picture boxes by 1/8-inch on any artwork that will bleed. it is not necessary to order your pages in printer’s spreads--reader’s spreads are preferred. Do not use the menu palette in your layout program to choose “Bold” or “Italic” fonts--they will not output correctly. Choose the correct weight of the font from the font menu.

Please provide us with a laser output of your files.

File size

If your graphics do not exceed the suggested dpi requirements for the output material required, no additional meg charges will apply. Remember that excessive resolution (beyond that recommended) results in larger files that take longer to print with little or no visual improvement in print quality. Recommended resolutions are 300 dpi for photos, 600 dpi for line work.

Additional meg charges, if applicable, are $2.50 per meg. Extra turnaround time may be required for large jobs.

Font usage:

To ensure font substitutions do not occur, we require that you supply all fonts used in your document, including those used in embedded graphics. Mac users should supply both printer and screen font files for any PostScript font. Font files for every OpenType or Truetype font used must be provided. Multiple Master fonts are not acceptable.

Windows users should supply .pfm and .pfb font files for each font if PostScript, .ttf files for Truetype fonts, or .otf files for OpenType. PostScript fonts are usually found in the hard drive in a directory named psfonts. Other fonts are usually stored in the windows/fonts directory.

Transferring your File:

Most newer programs support drag and drop (Mac or Windows). Upon login, your folder should be at the top of the directory. Drag your compressed file into the window and you'll be prompted with a message stating "are you sure you want to upload the dragged file," clicking "OK" will automatically copy the file onto our server. When the progress bar is complete, you are done and may quit out of the program.

Downloading Files from us:

If we have files for you to pick up, they will be stored in your folder and can be accessed using the same login methods as outlined above. If you are using an FTP application such as Fetch, you can download a file from our server using the "Get" command.

Making PDFs with Acrobat Distiller

Instructions

To import our joboptions, click on the link at left to download. Double-click the file to unzip. In Acrobat Distiller, choose Settings-->Add Adobe PDF Settings. Navigate to the Offsethouse.joboptions file you just unzipped. The settings will now appear in Distiller under Adobe PDF Settings.

If using Quark, make a postscript file from Your working files. Be sure to add .25" to your document size to allow for bleeds, and use registration marks. Make sure your document colors are correctly separated (spot vs. CMYK). In the Print dialog box, choose PDF-->Save PDF as Postscript. Drag the resulting .ps file into Distiller, making sure that the Settings are set to Offsethouse.

If using InDesign, make sure your document setup specifies a bleed of .125" Top, Bottom, Left and Right. You need not make a postscript file or launch Distiller; instead you can choose File-->Adobe PDF Presets and the Offsethouse settings will be one of the choices. Simply name your file and click save.
